(Bland, Virginia) June 13, 2006, The Bland County Board of Supervisors have partnered with the National Association of Counties (NACo), to offer every citizen of Bland County a ‘Free’ Prescription Medication Discount Card. Beginning July 1st, the Card is to be used by all residents of Bland County to receive discount savings on the purchase of prescription medications. According to NACo, an average savings of over 20% on prescriptions and an average savings of around 50% on a 3-month supply of select medications can be enjoyed by county residents. The card can be used in 8 out of 10 pharmacies nationwide, including but not limited to the Bland County Pharmacy, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, CVS, Counts Drug, and many more. “What makes this card so attractive is its ease of use”, stated Jonathan Sweet, County Administrator. “There are no enrollment forms, no membership fees…All you need are the card, proof of Bland County residency and you can start using your card immediately.” The card can be used by any Bland County citizen and their family any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance. There are no limits on how many times an individual may use their card. “This program almost seemed too good to be true when I first learned of its benefits, as it will provide our citizens substantial discounts on prescription drugs and not cost the tax payers one cent”, stated Karen Hodock, Bland County Board of Supervisors. NACo reports that the discount card has saved consumers across the country $7.2 million to date on more than 640,000 filled prescriptions. Consumers are saving an average of 20.4% per prescription drug purchase. The overall average savings percentage has increased steadily and is now at its highest amount since the program’s inception. To date, 344 NACo member counties are participating in the program, with another 450 counties currently considering it. “This Program only benefits those who use it”, stated Jonathan Sweet. “Please stop by the County Administrator’s Office to pick up your ‘Free’ Prescription Discount Card today and start enjoying this new program beginning July 1st, 2006.” Additional information regarding this program can be obtained by calling toll free 1-877-321-2652 or visiting https://naco.advancerx.com and/or www.bland.org .
